Spisanie Daga (Bulgarian socialist era comics)

Spisanie Daga (Rainbow- Comics): the emblematic comics of the socialist era, kinda the Bulgarian Marvel. Launched in the late 70s up till 1992 with more than 180K yearly issue at it best times. Many famous Bulgarian artists have their input in keeping the edition that popular: Boris Dimovski (world known caricaturist),Donyo Donev (author of the "3 Fools" short animation),Rumen Petkov (the director of Dexter's Lab,Johny Bravo,Cow and Chicken) etc. etc.. I must admit that along with the brilliant artworks and catchy plots,Daga has earned the reputation of a world class comics,at least in the eyes of the Bulgarian grown up kids :o) But let's have a closer look to have better understanding of this one of a kind socialistic comics.

Bilbo Baggins-There and Back.
My generation's first touch to Tolkien's characters: elves, orcs, hobbits, wizards, dwarves and any other magical creatures

ELO

As per Rumen Petkov, ELO was Bulgarian response to the capitalistic "Star Wars".As a matter of fact the series has it's own Darth Vader and "May the force be with you!" legacy.Well, slightly changed to"May the stars be with you!"...

Dobromir

Historical series taking place in the dusk of the medieval times, where the main character Dobromir is fighting the Ottomans using the kung-fu techniques...

The adventures of Choko and the frog Boko (Приключенията на Чоко и жабока Боко)

My personal fav.The story of a naive stroke called Choko and a filthy and disobedient frog Boko. There is a cartoon based on the comics, directed by Rumen Petkov (Remember the guy behind Dexter's Lab,Cow and Chicken etc. etc.)

Jan Bibian

Jan Bibian a.k.a. the first Armenian on the moon :o) a funny guy mischiefing all day long together with his mate Fjut-the lil' devil...

Interpretations of the adventurous novels "Treasury Island" by R.L. Stevenson and "Tomek".Stories of Karamel Mu, Bubachku, Spartacus and many many others names to remember for the 80s generation. In a way Spisanie Daga was our window to the colorful world beyond the Iron Curtain. Our out-of-the box thinking gateway....
